Victor suffers through a dinner with the Brackmans when they want him to romance (and marry) their Hispanic maid who is threatened with deportation. Meanwhile, Markowitz finds himself in the middle of a fierce tax-audit between sleazy millionaire Irving Lewis, and alcoholic IRS agent Marv Fletcher in which Markowitz resorts to lying about Lewis' tax claims. Kuzak's personal-injury suit against an amusement park becomes complicated by his young client's greedy, adoptive father. Also, Abby's personal troubles take a turn for the worse when she learns that her husband has kidnapped their three-year-old son Eric.

Kuzak represents Stacey Gill, a TV news anchorwoman who lost her on-air job following a broadcast of graphic reports concerning her breast cancer surgery. Meanwhile, Brackman is taken to court when a group of people that live in an inner city housing project accuse him of being a slumlord and their lawyer is Andrew Taylor, the former McKenzie Brackman associate. Jeffrey Sullivan causes concern for Victor when he suspects Jeffrey of dealing drugs within the office. Becker tries to work out a payment plan for his services to Hillary Mishkin.

Brackman (recovering from a broken ankle) asks Becker to represent him after his wife, Sheila, serves him with divorce pagers and she retains Becker's former girlfriend and law associate, Lisa Weston, to represent her. Meanwhile, Markowitz feels very jealous after Kelsey wins the court case for Cromwell Industries and the personal appreciation from Mr. Cromwell himself. Judge Hood, a retiring superior court judge, pressures McKenzie for a job at the firm, and Victor uses statistical evidence as he accuses another judge of bigotry for his Hispanic client. Also, Roxanne reluctantly agrees to go out on a date with the insecure Andrew Putnam.

Becker turns over a losing case concerning a case of "car homicide" to Leslie Kleinberg, a pretty new associate, then pursues the case and the associate when Leslie decides to leave the firm. Meanwhile, Kelsey defends a water company CEO against charges that they've polluted the drinking water of a nearby trailer park, causing birth defects. Brackman, after another humiliation by his insanely jealous wife Sheila, turns to Rhonda for comfort. Grace becomes upset and jealous when she meets Lynn Palmer, Kuzak's ex-wife whom he never mentioned. Also, Abby learns how much Rollins is being paid and sparks a rebellion among the associates.

Victor's love for Lauren is tested when she's arrested after she shoots and kills her ex-husband and it appears to have been premeditated. Although Victor gets the murder charges against Lauren dropped, he's still skeptical about her story of self-defense and breaks up with her. Meanwhile, Abby discovers Erroll in Brackman's office and learns of his arrangement with him while Sheila seduces Erroll as payback after learning of Brackman' affair, in which he suffers an anxiety attack. Grace prosecutes Reuben Mendez, a teenager who has been accused of killing his own father after years of abuse. Benny plays Santa at the annual Christmas party, where Becker persuades Roxanne to go with him to visit his parents for the holidays.

Markowitz and Kelsey experience prenuptial jitters as they prepare to make their wedding vows in a formal ceremony at their house. Meanwhile, Benny is arrested for sexual assault after he confesses, and Kuzak and Becker search for proof that the charges are bogus. Rollins represents former McKenzie Brackman associate Anthony Gianelli, now a circus stuntman, whose entire crippled family is being sued by an audience member claiming that he was injured during a show. Roxanne meets Jimmy Markham, a stockbroker after they accidentally hit each other in the garage parking lot and a passionate affair begins between them. Also, Sheila Brackman causes another scene at the wedding ceremony when she tells Douglas that she wants a divorce.

After Brackman' estranged mother dies, he learns that he has yet another bald half-brother, named Gordon Salt, from another one of late father's mistresses. Gordon, a psychiatrist, tries to help Douglas with his marital problems with Sheila, when really he wants her for himself. Meanwhile, Abby and Rollins learn more about each other as they work late hours to document a potential class action suit. McKenzie tries to help Victor settle a lawsuit brought by a woman against August Redding, a elderly legendary lawyer who's mental facilities are slowly leaving him. Kuzak tries to coax Grace out of her self-imposed retirement by offering a position as co-counsel for Andy Prescott and Thomas Mullaney, two teenage boys accused of a felony murder in connection with a convenience store robbery.

Brackman looks to Rusty for sympathy when his reconciliation with Sheila falls through after she begins an affair with Gordon. Kelsey argues for a Caesarean section to save the unborn child of a dying woman. Also, Kuzak and Grace have a major disagreement about how to conduct their defense of Andy Prescott and Thomas Mullaney who blame each other for the murder of the convenience store clerk.

Becker becomes smitten by Monica Ryan, an attractive judge hearing one of his divorce cases and shortly thereafter she hires him to handle her own divorce from her husband. Meanwhile, Rollins and Markowitz use questionable means in a desperate attempt to win a lawsuit against Robert Bolland, a shady business manager accused of defrauding an old woman. A revenge-seeking Erroll launches an all-out war with Brackman when he causes a scene at a formal dinner party by announcing that he has decided to represent Sheila suing for divorce from Brackman. Elizabeth Brand, Kuzak's secretary, introduces a lonely Roxanne to Dave Meyer, a incredibly boring direct-mail mogul.

Kuzak learns that Richard Mathers, the opposing counsel in his latest personal injury case which involved a new car, never passed the bar exam. However, Kuzak decides to use this information to his own advantage. Meanwhile, Kelsey and Markowitz grow increasingly wearily of trying to conceive and they begin talk of adoption. While Brackman is going over the final divorce settlement from Sheila, he hires Dorothy Wyler, a 52-year-old lawyer as an associate and who too is a divorcée. Abby, still frightened after her shooting of Holland, allows Police Lieutenant Bill Ringstrom to comfort her and accompany her to a interview a hostile witness.

Kelsey represents a woman paralyzed during back surgery suing her physician who was allegedly impaired at the time by an epileptic seizure. Meanwhile, Grace represents Benny who petitions the court for custody of a homeless youth named Sam. Bloom tells Becker that she has the inside track on a fabulous job offer on national TV. Also, Brackman becomes romantically involved with Veronica Berg, but when his ex-wife, Sheila, finds out, she really lets him have it.

Becker tries to win back Roxanne after his psychologist suddenly dies during a session. Meanwhile, Brackman and his ex-wife, Sheila, clash again when their youngest son, Alexander, gets in trouble with the law. Susan Bloom shocks the office with invitations to her unexpected wedding to Mikhail, a Russian movie actor. The Markowitzes' nanny, Ned Barron, went too far when he comes on to Ann Kelsey again and he is fired. DePalma asks McKenzie for help when his participation in the judicial sting operation impairs his ability to function in court when faces the wrath of other judges in his quest to find one for his latest case involving defending an alleged embezzler. Ann Kelsey was arrested for obstruction of justice and suspicion of illegal aliens by INS Agents when she bought a new nanny and having her son Matthew returned home. Also, Gwen and Kittredge's romantic fling quickly turns into a torrid affair.

Zoey is prosecuting a corrupt multimillionaire who tries to buy his way out of a murder charge after a hit-and-run that killed a homeless man. Meanwhile, the Brackmans and Benny must face each other in juvenile court after Sam and Alexander get into trouble together. The Markowitzes ask a reluctant Sarah to be Matthew's new nanny. Also, Bloom and Mikhail face their first INS interview while Mikhail makes a play for C.J.

Markowitz makes another rare courtroom appearance to defend a condom manufacturer barred from distributing his American flag decorated condoms in the U.S. Meanwhile, Rollins mulls over the possible results when he is approached with an offer to sit in for a city-council seat. Gwen feels betrayed when she thinks that Kittredge used their relationship to damage one of Becker's clients involving a woman her elderly mother, whom is Becker's client, for ownership of the lady's estate. Also, Mullaney goes to Palm Springs to act as a mentor to a novice female D.A. in a murder case.

Becker meets with an AIDS-stricken ex-lover, Paige Dietrich, who needs a will drawn before she dies, and Roxanne gets a blood test when she learns of Becker's past connection with Dietrich. Meanwhile, Victor Sifuentes visits Grace with a marriage proposal. DePalma is representing a ex-convict, also dying from AIDS, who is suing the medical board to keep him covered on their insurance. Brackman and Sheila get more intimate and decide to remarry.

Due to the stress of her return to work, Zoey opts to be out of the D.A.'s office and decides to leave L.A., and Mullaney. Meanwhile, Rollins' campaign sinks lower and lower as the election draws near. Becker looks inward to his future, but Roxanne sees just the same old Becker. In jail, Brackman learns about his new life from behind the bars. Markowitz is slow to heal and frustrations set in for him and Kelsey. Mullaney becomes aroused in his first case for the D.A.'s office in prosecuting a man in a child-abuse case, who is being defended by a nun lawyer.

Mullaney fights against the state mental hospital to prevent the release of a couple's daughter's convicted killer David Orcott (their son-in-law) from the hospital where he was committed. Meanwhile, Brackman can't resist a nasal aphrodisiac in his attempt to revive his sex life with Sheila. Flicker continues to annoy and tempt Becker, and then after much forceful reasoning, he finally allows Arnie to meet with Eric Schuller, who is revealed to be long dead. Also, Morales represents a man suing the hog-finishing plant over the foul odor contaminating his nearby home.

Paros represents the descendants of a slave seeking the return of their ancestor's paintings from the collection of the original slave owner's descendants. Meanwhile, Markowitz is representing a Indian restaurant owner being sued by an obnoxious couple after a temperamental waiter spilled food on them. Also, Dominic introduces Benny to Rosalie Hendrickson, another retarded woman, who later tells Benny about a friend who raped her in the past in which Benny persuades her to press charges against her so-called assailant.

New associate, Patrick Flanagan, throws his weight around the firm, charming everyone with his friendliness and even helps get Brackman and Sheila's son, Alexander, into an exclusive prep school. But he shows his true hidden and unwholesome colors when he crosses Becker while assisting him in a civil case of a woman suing her ex-husband for allegedly molesting their daughter when Flanagan persuades Becker's client not to testify and blackmails the opposing counsel for a large settlement, which incurs the wrath of Mullaney on Becker after the devious Flanagan places the blame on Becker. Meanwhile, Rollins' case puts him between a young model and her over-protective father, who is suing her for beach of contract.
