Hannah searches for a job in New York City after she is cut off financially by her parents.

Marnie has arranged for Jessa to have an abortion at the clinic. Jessa's situation adds an extra level of stress to Marnie and Hannah's post-sex discussions with Charlie and Adam respectively. Marnie does not want to reduce her problems with Charlie as boredom, but she is feeling increasingly sexually and emotionally incompatible with him, especially as he always wants to please her rather than do what pleases him. Hannah becomes worried about what diseases Adam might be bringing into their sexual relationship through the sex he has with others, as she learns he does not always use condoms in those situations, and despite the fact that they always use condoms. As such, Hannah, who is paranoid about getting an STD, especially HIV, wants to get regularly tested. As she, Marnie and Shoshanna will be at the clinic anyway to provide Jessa with emotional support, Hannah figures that is as good a time as any to get her first test done. Jessa doesn't seem to want to deal with the issue of being pregnant. While Marnie, Hannah, and Shoshanna wait for Jessa at the clinic, Shoshanna divulges some information about her own sexual history. Meanwhile, Hannah goes on her first job interview.

Hannah receives the results of her STD tests: she has contracted HPV. After an accusatory conversation with Adam about him being the one who infected her, Hannah then comes to the conclusion that Elijah Krantz, her boyfriend in her last two years of college, is the one who infected her. After a discussion with Shoshanna about the issue, Hannah decides to confront Elijah, although she also decides to use that opportunity to reconnect with Elijah sexually, despite the issues which led to their breakup. Hannah learns much more during her meeting with Elijah, that new information which changes the focus of their discussion. Meanwhile, Marnie is feeling more disconnected from Charlie, especially following what she considers a selfish act by Charlie but one which he did for humanistic reasons. She in turn starts to fall for artist Booth Jonathan primarily because he's everything that Charlie is not. And Jessa starts work as a babysitter for the Lavoyt family. She treats the job in a laissez-faire attitude like she treats everything else in life.

Hannah takes up 'sexting'; Shoshanna runs into a boy from summer camp; Jessa gets distracted on the job; Ray and Charlie snoop.

Hannah's diary makes Charlie reconsider his relationship with Marnie, but is she ready to let him go? Hannah pays a visit to Adam's, but finds herself excluded from the fun part. Jesse meets her ex, who has absolutely no intention of sleeping with her.

The girls attend a book launch for Hannah's college nemesis. Hannah meets her old professor, who invites her to a reading. In need of money, she also tries out for a job at Ray's café. Hannah and Marnie get into a fight.

Marnie moves out of the apartment. Hannah considers the idea of Adam moving in. Jessa invites everyone to a mystery party.

Hannah throws a housewarming party with brand-new roommate Elijah, but it's hard to move on when she's still playing nurse to Adam. Marnie gets bad news at work and a visit from her mom; Shoshanna avoids Ray at the party; and sun-kissed Jessa returns from her honeymoon.

Hannah gets unsolicited musical attention from heartbroken Adam and displeasing opinions on her writing from Sandy. Hannah gets a new freelance gig, and her editor suggests that she should try cocaine for the first time to write about her experience. In the process, she gets to know her downstairs neighbor, Laird. Meanwhile, Marnie meets her old artist flame, Booth Jonathan, who takes her home to show her his studio.

Elijah moves out, and Hannah invites a group including Charlie, Audrey and Marney to dinner. Jessa meets Thomas-John's parents, which finally prompts a confrontation between husband and wife. Shoshanna discovers that Ray may be living with her.

Hannah is hired to write an e-book, but has trouble finding inspiration. Booth asks Marnie to host a party with him for a gallery opening. Ray goes to see Adam, and they end up traveling to Staten Island to return a stolen dog.
