Becker becomes smitten by Monica Ryan, an attractive judge hearing one of his divorce cases and shortly thereafter she hires him to handle her own divorce from her husband. Meanwhile, Rollins and Markowitz use questionable means in a desperate attempt to win a lawsuit against Robert Bolland, a shady business manager accused of defrauding an old woman. A revenge-seeking Erroll launches an all-out war with Brackman when he causes a scene at a formal dinner party by announcing that he has decided to represent Sheila suing for divorce from Brackman. Elizabeth Brand, Kuzak's secretary, introduces a lonely Roxanne to Dave Meyer, a incredibly boring direct-mail mogul.

McKenzie helps a widow and her family try to retrieve the parts of her husband's body after it was accidentally donated to a lab for medical research. Roxanne, constantly on the edge because of her diet and Meyer's constant direct-sales pitches, is arrested for assault and battery after she hits a smug, rich woman who makes a joke about her weight. Meanwhile, Kuzak represents Ray Davis, a young man who is suing a hospital that allegedly let his wife die because they didn't have insurance to cover their medical bills.

Grace is prosecuting a man accused of sexually molesting his five-year-old daughter and has to put the young victim on the witness stand. Meanwhile, Markowitz begins his first litigation case for the defense of a dating service company when a woman sues them for failing to provide her with her "Mr. Right." Brackman's mail-order melons bring a rat to the office and a comedy of errors ensues as everyone spends the rest of the day trying to capture it. With the firm in serious financial trouble, the partners are divided at bringing in a "rainmaker"; a new partner to provide additional clients and boost revenues. A certain Rosalind Shays is hired.

Rollins represents a comedian suing his ex-wife for heckling him on stage. Meanwhile, Abby emphasizes with Diane Campbell, a divorcée suing her ex-husband for years of spouse abuse and who feels more abuse by the process. Kelsey declares an all-out personal war against Rosalind Shays when she discovers Rosalind taking over cases that Kelsey worked hard to bring in. But Rosalind successfully counter-attacks by play-acting as the poor victim and making it look to McKenzie and everyone else at the firm that Kelsey is the aggressor. After a brief fling, Grace and Kuzak decide not to get back together and he goes back to renew his relationship with Kimberly Dugan.

Rollins and Kuzak begin the Chisolm trial and dealing with the media circus and biased protesters, which takes a turn when Rollins puts Holloway on the witness stand. Meanwhile, Cara Jean "C.J." Lamb, a feisty, British-born attorney for a plaintive suing one of their wealthy clients for illegal re-zoning, outfoxes McKenzie, Brackman and Markowitz's counter-suit against her and receives a lucrative job offer by McKenzie in return for her aggression. Victor represents Martin Lowens, a professor suing a candid camera show who lifted his toupee on the air, while becoming aware of his feelings for Grace, who's now involved in a romance with Jack Sollers.

Markowitz makes another rare courtroom appearance to defend a condom manufacturer barred from distributing his American flag decorated condoms in the U.S. Meanwhile, Rollins mulls over the possible results when he is approached with an offer to sit in for a city-council seat. Gwen feels betrayed when she thinks that Kittredge used their relationship to damage one of Becker's clients involving a woman her elderly mother, whom is Becker's client, for ownership of the lady's estate. Also, Mullaney goes to Palm Springs to act as a mentor to a novice female D.A. in a murder case.

Becker represents Mitchell Schein, a greedy man who holds out for material concessions before agreeing to grant his wife a divorce following Jewish law. Meanwhile, Kelsey is representing Aaron Voss, a stiff, no-nonsense meteorologist suing the TV station manager who replaced him with a stand-up comic to boost its ratings. Also, Morales represents a Latino construction worker who claims he was stiffed by a wealthy couple looking to save a few dollars.
