A desperate Kuzak sweats out of preparations for his appeal before the California Supreme Court in a final attempt to overturn the conviction on Earl Williams on a technicality. Meanwhile, Rollins becomes upset when Rosalind brings in another big client; a factory with substantial South African holdings. Also, Becker's new client is Al Vogel, the bitter ex-husband of a TV newswoman who threatens to go public with a pornographic video tape of her.

Victor is co-counsel in defending a woman accused, along with her husband, of murdering their intellectually disabled newborn baby and who claim it was the result of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Meanwhile, Markowitz is arrested for drunk driving while on his way to a lunchtime tryst with Kelsey. At McKenzie's suggestion, Brackman starts seeing a sex therapist, named Marilyn Hopkins, to revise his non-existent sex life.

Victor is moved by a mother's pleas and agrees to make an emotional appeal for clemency for Hector Rodriguez, a old friend on death row facing execution. Meanwhile, Grace tackles her first case for the firm in defending an elderly man for the mercy killing of his wife who was dying from Alzheimer's Disease. Kelsey represents a frustrated Chicago Bears fan who is suing the team's staff. Kuzak's plans to leave the firm suddenly change when his father decides to come live his last days in Los Angeles. Also, Becker worries about his past life and about his mother's advice as he prepares to marry Corrinne.

Rosalind Shays returns with an equally ruthless and manipulative lawyer, Jack Sollers, to sue the firm for sexual discrimination. Markowitz suffers a heart attack during the trial and is put on leave. Meanwhile, Kuzak faces Darron Holloway, an angry, civil-rights black activist inciting the press and the public while he takes the case of defending Brian Chisolm, a white policeman accused of shooting a black youth. Also, Roxanne has more problems with her father, Murray, when she tells him that he has Alzheimer's Disease.

After Kelsey and Markowitz discover the intimate relationship between McKenzie and Rosalind, they spearhead a movement to confront him about his highhanded ways. Meanwhile, Kuzak allows his jealous feelings about Grace to influence his reactions after learning about her involvement in the kidney broker affair. Victor hates himself after he's compelled to defend Lionel Sanders, an alleged sociopath murderer he believes has blatantly lied under oath. Becker takes a difficult divorce case of representing a young woman in her divorce from Leonard Bey, a vain, aging millionaire, while Roxanne and Corrinne plan a surprise 39th birthday party for Becker. Also, Abby remains bitter over being passed over for partner.

The firm worries about its reputation when Kittredge takes a high-profile criminal case of defending a mobster leader for allegedly murdering a rival mob leader and the new D.A., Ruby Thomas, becomes determined to see the case won at any cost. Meanwhile, Markowitz takes a rare court deposition in representing two women basketball players suing the Hollywood Hoopsters for wrongful termination.

Due to the stress of her return to work, Zoey opts to be out of the D.A.'s office and decides to leave L.A., and Mullaney. Meanwhile, Rollins' campaign sinks lower and lower as the election draws near. Becker looks inward to his future, but Roxanne sees just the same old Becker. In jail, Brackman learns about his new life from behind the bars. Markowitz is slow to heal and frustrations set in for him and Kelsey. Mullaney becomes aroused in his first case for the D.A.'s office in prosecuting a man in a child-abuse case, who is being defended by a nun lawyer.

Gwen's stalker, a darkly sinister woman who claims to be Alison Morales, Daniel's recently diseased wife, continues to plague Gwen and plays a particularly cruel trick on her by tampering with her medical records. Meanwhile, Markowitz takes the stand for the first time at the pretrial preliminary against his two alleged assailants. Brackman represents a man running an adult strip club downstairs in their building and the city attorney involved is the annoying and obnoxious Dana Romney. Becker believes his show business career is over as Schuller's will is read, but he gets the opposite result when Beatrice Schuller acquires the throne, dismisses Flicker and hires Becker as the studio director. Also, Rollins confides in Paros about his behavior during the Ajamian riot.
