In the first part of the premiere, Mike plays Cupid for Mandy by setting her up on a blind-date with Kyle, one of his employees who he thinks would be the perfect guy for her. But Mike's set-up gets off track when Kyle accidentally meets Kristin. Meanwhile at work, Mike's long-time boss and friend, Ed, announces that he's grounding Mike from their catalogue's international photo shoots and putting him in charge of the company's webpage.

Mike is outnumbered by his wife and daughters when they all agree that baby proofing the house is a good idea. But soon Vanessa has second thoughts when she finds herself home by herself babysitting Boyd and can't release the toilet seat's complicated childproof latch. Meanwhile, Mike thinks it's time for Mandy to earn her own money and gets her a job delivering pizzas -- without first consulting Vanessa.

When Vanessa forces a reluctant Mike to attend Grandparents Day at their grandson Boyd's preschool, Mike manages to insult the daycare teacher and Boyd gets kicked out of school. Boyd's mom, Kristin, tells Mike that he now has to look after him, so Mike takes the two-year-old to work with him. Meanwhile, after an elderly looking grandmother at the Grandparents Day event thinks she and Vanessa are the same age, Vanessa goes out of her way to look more youthful -- hoping no one sees her buying clothes from a boutique where her 17-year-old daughter, Mandy, shops.

Mike feels let down when his daughters aren't into celebrating Halloween with him the way they used to. He decides that his two-year-old grandson, Boyd, can be his perfect trick or treat partner. But Kristin, Boyd's mother, adamantly tells him that she doesn't want her son to go out on Halloween. Mike sneaks him out -- with a plan to get the child home before Kristin gets back from work. When Mike, dressed as John Wayne from "The Green Berets," gets to Ed's house with Boyd, they are greeted at the door by Ed's lady friend, Elvira.

Mike must decide which way he will vote when the all-male Outdoor Man's softball team gets a mandate to allow females to play. Also, while helping a reluctant Mandy fill out college applications, Kristin makes some decisions about her own future. Mike hopes Mandy will go to his alma mater of University of Michigan, but Vanessa wants her to attend her alma mater, the rival Ohio State.

When Mandy wants to enter a contest to be on a TV modeling show, Mike intends to give her his usual "yes" -- as he does with all of his daughters' requests -- knowing that Vanessa will tell her "no." But when Vanessa insists that Mike play the bad cop this time around, he has difficulty following through.

When a neighbor's home gets broken into, Mike thinks his fists and a cabinet full of rifles are enough to keep a home intruder at bay. But Vanessa thinks otherwise and rallies the neighbors to start a Neighborhood Watch program. While Mike patrols the block, he gets wrapped up in some neighborhood gossip which gets him into hot water.

After an innocent date with Kristin, Kyle accidentally falls asleep in her bedroom. When Mike discovers this, his instinct is to take action. He establishes a new and more hard-lined set of house rules that end up causing more friction than harmony between him and his three daughters.

A new couple moves in the neighborhood and Vanessa invites them to dinner. Mike finds out they are lesbians and is initially put off. Then he hits it off as a pal to one of them, but accidentally insults her. The girls make a revenge video.

Mike's Christmas spirit gets dampened when Ryan (Nick Jonas), the father of Kristen's baby, unexpectedly comes back to town after a long absence. Kristin's boyfriend, Kyle, also doesn't know what to make of Ryan's return. Meanwhile, Ed hires Mandy as an elf at Outdoor Man, where she tries to unionize the other elves to get better perks.

Mike, amazed that Mandy might finally have found a passion for something, takes her under his wing at work when she offers to start an Internet campaign to keep Ed's favorite barber shop hangout from closing. Also, an exhausted Vanessa insists that she can still take care of the household despite her hectic work schedule, until she falls asleep during her own business presentation.

A pro-fisherman visits the store and talks of his travels. Mike wants to travel the world for work, but Vanessa is against it. Mike invites Chad to dinner to convince Vanessa how wonderful it is. But Chad realizes family life is better.

Ed hires his daughter, Gabriella, as a marketing consultant which frustrates Mike. Also, Mike and Eve find a stray dog; the family attempts to get it back to its owner.

Vanessa discovers that she and Mike are no longer invited to their neighbor's parties because of something Mike said. Mike tries to make amends after Vanessa gets upset. Meanwhile, the girls try to fix Mandy's car after Eve puts a large dent in it.

When Vanessa gives Mike a history of their house for his birthday, they discover that a woman who once lived there over 100 years ago died upstairs. Now the family, especially Vanessa, suspects the mysterious things going on in the house are linked to the woman's ghost. Meanwhile, Ed claims to never have cash on him and keeps borrowing from the money-strapped Kyle.

When the overzealous Mandy gets the chance to meet her idol, Kim Kardashian, things don't go exactly as planned, but the outcome is better than she could have ever imagined. Meanwhile, Mike doesn't want "The Man" ordering him to cut down a damaged tree on his own property and rallies the family to protest down at City Hall.

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart guest starts as himself, helping to promote the Outdoor Man store. His race car is stolen from the store. Kristen wants to go skydiving.

Mike's father Bud, and his brother Jim, arrive in town with thoughts of building an Outdoor Man store in a new location. Jim tries to get a loan at a bank, but ends up arguing more than requesting the loan.

The Baxters are constantly awakened by an early morning prankster who rings their doorbell and then runs away. When Mike catches the teen-aged boy, the kid injures himself and now his litigious father expects Mike to pay the doctor bill. Also, single working mom Kristin starts college.

Mandy's new boyfriend is an animal rights activist. Mike does not like him because he is against all that Mike believes. Ed and Kyle start a disagreement when they learn their ancestors used to be on competing families.

For the annual Ted's Tacklebox competition between Outdoor Man and another local sports store, Mike and Ed ask Kyle to join them. They soon find Kyle is not much of a sportsman. Mike misses Mandy's school play because of the competition.

Mike's father Bud moves into town and begins working on a new Outdoor Man store. His girlfriend moves in with him. Mike is upset at his father living with a woman.

Vanessa has been volunteering a lot and gets a recognition plaque. Mike steals the spotlight and upsets Vanessa.

Vanessa's sister April visits and only wants to borrow money. Kristen and Kyle break up.

It's election day and first time voter Mandy has a choice to make in who she votes for President. Conservative Mike pushes Mitt Romney and Liberal Kristen adores Barrack Obama. Her mother remains totally neutral and cheers both candidates so that nobody will know who she favors. Who will be the recipient of Mandy's first vote.

Boyd says dodgeball is not allowed at school. His father had the game banned. Mike decides to have the kids play dodgeball in his backyard, but the kids are terrible. Ed and Kyle volunteer in a rescue team & try to keep up with each other.

Mike does not want Eve to skip a soccer practice because everyone counts on her. She rebels by going to a party and getting drunk. A neighbor's car is egged, and Vanessa invites them over to show not everyone is un-neighborly.

Ed's ex-wife is back in town, and he thinks she wants to get together again. He starts to fall in love with her again. Kristen helps Mandy get a job at the restaurant where she works. It does not go well.

Vanessa gives a talk at Eve's school for career day. When Eve finds out what her mother does at an oil company, she accuses her mother of destroying the land. Mike tells her to apologize to Vanessa. She refuses and camps outside the house.

Mike brings home a duck for dinner. Kristen wants him to hide the bird so Boyd does not learn where meat comes from. Ryan wants Boyd to be a vegetarian. Kyle is in danger of losing his job because Mandy takes things when he is working.

Vanessa is tired of holiday preparations. Mike decides to give her a stress-free Christmas by arranging for their children and grandson to take a holiday trip. While hunting for a turkey, Ed accidentally shoots a bald eagle.

Eve is suspended from school by name-calling to another student. Mike finds it hard to believe this is a reason for suspending a student and uses his video blog to voice his opinions. Ryan gets a commercial driving license and gets a job.

An architect submits a job bid. Ed wants to hire a younger, prettier architect. Mike wants to hire Bill. Vanessa thinks he is being sexist, but finds she was picked for a promotion because of her good looks.

Mike & Vanessa hire a maid who helps out in many ways. Mike makes sure she has a green card, and she does. It makes him wonder about the hires at work. A long time employee does not, and Mike tries to find a way to keep him at work.

Mike puts the American Flag up in his yard and learns that Ryan does not want Boyd to learn the Pledge of Allegiance. Eve decides she wants to show her support for America by joining ROTC. Vanessa does not agree with the decision.

Mike hires the boy Mandy is interested in dating - the school football team quarterback and it turns out he is not a good worker. Mandy loses interest when she realizes he is a slacker when off the field. Eve goes after a gopher in the yard.

Ryan wants Boyd to have his last name instead of using Baxter. Since Ryan is more in Boyd's life, Kristin is considering it. Mike decides to enter a father and son derby car race with Boyd since Mike feels he is like his own son.

The store puts on a show for Buffalo Bill Day, starring the employees and Mike's children. Mike tries to keep it politically correct. Mandy and Kyle start a relationship.

Mandy stays out four hours past her curfew while on a date with Kyle. Mike and Vanessa find a way to get her to confess without actually asking her about it. Kristin continues to date her ex-boyfriend.

Mike hires a soccer coach to help Eve improve her game so she has a better chance at a college scholarship. The coach is extremely attractive and all the woman swoon over him. Mandy wants Kyle to be jealous that she lusts after another man.

Mandy might fail history so Mike & Vanessa take away her electronic devices until she improves her grade. Mike takes Ryan, Boyd, & Eve to the opening game for baseball. Bill starts taunting Mike & his family. Ryan handles the situation.

Mandy gets accepted to two colleges and accepts at the more expensive one. Eve practices for an event in ROTC. Kristen feels her sisters are advancing and she is stagnant, especially when she meets a successful former co-worker.

Since Kristen and Ryan are in their own home, Mike and Vanessa miss seeing Boyd all the time. When Mike finds out Boyd is in a different school district and the school is in a bad part of town, he fights to have Boyd go to a school near him.

Although Mike is having a great time teaching Eve how to drive, he thinks Vanessa should take over so she can have a chance to bond with her daughter.

Mandy does not seem to be getting the most out of college by making friends, so Vanessa tells her she should join a sorority. Ed plays "undercover boss" with the loading dock crew.

Kristen is doing well at her job at the restaurant which is owned by John (JTT). John kisses her. Ryan is still on strike from his job, and Kristen compares the two men. Eve and Mike continue their surprise attack practice with each other.

Vanessa takes over the Halloween Haunted House at Boyd's school. They let Boyd go through the haunt before the party to make sure it is scary. It turns out to be too frightening. Eve gets upset when Mandy tells her she is not popular.

The Baxter's neighbor is running for the school board. However, Mike does not like the neighbors. When all the campaign signs disappear, Mike is the suspect. A hot guy is interested in Eve-for her homework. Her sisters give romantic advice.

Eve has competition for her snow shoveling business with a neighbor laid-off from work. Mike feels bad for him having to take several jobs to earn money, so he helps him get a job at the store. Mandy & Kyle verbalize their love.

Since Vanessa is feeling guilty after encouraging Mandy to break up with the sometimes clueless Kyle, she is determined to mend things, but her sincere efforts only seem to make a bad situation worse.

It's Thanksgiving Day in the Baxter house and Mike's father, Bud, takes everyone by surprise when he announces his plans to open a recreational marijuana store. Now, Mike struggles between supporting his Dad and questioning the message this new business venture could send to his family.

While Mike's father babysat Boyd, he gave Boyd a small smack. This sets off a debate of parenting styles from different generations. Boyd learns to take advantage of his parents who do not spank, and Kristen feels she was spanked too much.

In the spirit of Christmas, the sometimes self-absorbed Mandy plays Santa by anonymously arranging a holiday surprise for Blanca, the Baxters' housekeeper. Also, when Vanessa gives Boyd a "magical" Elf doll, Ryan wants to tell Boyd it is just a doll, but Mike wants to prove to Ryan that a little Christmas spirit is not a bad thing.

Eve has proudly posted one of Mike's politically charged blogs on her Facebook page but ignores the kids at school when they start giving her a hard time for her views. Vanessa worries that Eve may become an outcast, but Mike feels like standing up for your beliefs builds character. Meanwhile, a local police officer begins patrolling the neighborhood and the Baxters find themselves in trouble with the law. Mike is outnumbered when the women in his family get off with warnings.

Boyd has a discipline problem at school, resisting sitting still in class and getting bored easily. When Kristin explains that the school counselor suggests he go on medicine for ADHD, both Ryan and Mike passionately disagree. Meanwhile, with some extra help, Mandy spends all of her time studying in an effort to get good grades for a change

When tasked with researching his school's namesake, Boyd gets a little help from Kristin and Ryan and his report causes outrage, prompting the school to reconsider its name. Also upsetting Vanessa, Mike suggests reaching out to school board member and neighbor, Carol Larabee, for help. Meanwhile, Mandy enlists Blanca's expertise for a class project.

A large bouquet of roses is delivered anonymously to the Baxter's house on Valentine's Day. Vanessa knows they're not for her because Mike doesn't believe in the frivolity of flowers on a Hallmark holiday.

The Baxter's dog Muffin impregnated the neighbor's dog Lady. Vanessa learns Chuck is separated from Carol and moved out a week ago, and Vanessa asks Mike to talk to Chuck to help heal the marriage.

Eve has a new boyfriend, and when the two of them are scheduled for an ROTC camping trip, her sisters tease Eve about being alone with him. She tells her sisters she is not like them and has no plans to sleep with him.

For a class project, Mandy has to showcase her clothing designs at a student fashion show and asks Eve to fill in as a model.

Eve tries to avoid a class with a tough teacher so she can get straight A's and go to college at West Point.

When Bud gets jumped while unloading his truck, Mike tries to suggest ways for him to protect himself. Vanessa talks to the girls about caring for her and Mike in their old age.

Vanessa's mooching sister April returns to say she wants to have a baby and Mandy's help to do it. Meanwhile at Outdoor Man, Mike tries pulling a prank on Chuck that gives him some new perspective on their relationship.

Ryan convinces an overprotective Kristin to let Boyd participate in the mutton busting competition to build Boyd's confidence. Eve's boyfriend's doesn't want her to wear her JROTC uniform to the prom.

Mike is ecstatic when Eve is picked to be her high school's first female kicker. But Vanessa feels high school football could be risky for their youngest daughter. Meanwhile, Eve wonders if her boyfriend, Justin, is more envious instead of enthusiastic about her achievement.

Boyd gets sent home early from a birthday party for starting a game of "war," Ryan insists Mike stop exposing his son to action movies and video games. Meanwhile, Vanessa hopes budding fashion designer, Mandy, can help her look awesome when she meets with her still hot-looking college roommates.

Mike and Ed's friendship is put to the test by Ed's controlling girlfriend.

Mike and Boyd almost drive into a sinkhole on the interstate, which scares Boyd to the point that he refuses to leave the house; Mike and Ryan try to help Boyd.

Mike and Chuck debate the merits of a local ballot measure merging their upscale neighborhood high school with one in the inner city. For Halloween, Ryan dresses up Boyd as a lump of coal - another reminder to Vanessa how her job as a geologist may be hurting the environment.

Mike offers Mandy advice on how to set aside money to pay the taxes on her struggling online clothing business. But she decides to do it her way - by opening up a pop up store at Bud's Buds.

Mike finds himself in the middle between Kristin and Ryan when it's discovered that Boyd was never vaccinated for chicken pox. Meanwhile, Mandy refuses to believe that Kyle let Eve beat him in a shooting gallery game.

After Kyle is in a minor motorcycle accident, Mandy is worried for his safety. But Ed is more concerned about the company's health insurance rates rising. Meanwhile, Ed makes a surprise announcement, and Eve finally gets to play with her high school football team.

When Mike realizes Vanessa has given away his remaining and beloved incandescent light bulbs, he and Chuck go on a mission to track down some of the old-school bulbs. Meanwhile, Mandy announces she's moving out of the house into her own apartment but leaves out a major detail.

When a neighbor's security camera catches Vanessa spraying the neighborhood cat with a hose, an upset Mike feels like they don't have any privacy. But as Mike reviews the security footage, he also sees Mandy in a compromising situation.

When a homeless man that Kyle has befriended goes missing, Mike uses his vlog to help track him down. Mandy is inspired by Kyle's good deed and in her unique way, helps a young mother from the woman's shelter.

When Mike and Vanessa come home early from their anniversary celebration, they are surprised to see that Mandy was planning a party, which included beer for the under-aged guests. Meanwhile, Ed's unique take on marriage and divorce causes Kristen to get nervous about her own upcoming wedding

When an excited Mandy announces she will accept her dream summer internship job to work with a top fashion designer in New York City -- then suddenly claims she can't go -- Mike and Vanessa want to figure out why she changed her mind.

Mike wants Boyd to walk home from school on his own, but Ryan's hesitant to allow this. Meanwhile, Ed and Kyle host a meeting for folks preparing for doomsday; and Eve and Mandy try to keep Vanessa in the dark about something.

Vanessa tries to educate Eve on why she should be more on board with having a woman president. Meanwhile, after Ed mentions to Mike that he hasn't seen his own daughter for years, Mike and Mandy try to figure out what they have in common.

When Mike blames the public school system for suspending his grandson Boyd from public school, he tells Ryan they should start looking at private schools. Meanwhile, Kristin and Kyle try to capture a raccoon loose in the Outdoor Man restaurant, and Mandy doesn't want Eve to take photos of her for a class assignment.

When Vanessa and the girls surprise Mike with a 1967 Impala for his birthday, he's excited to have alone time in the garage with the car. But when the car's original owner, Joe, keeps showing up with spare parts and unwanted advice, Mike drops some not-so-subtle hints that he can do without Joe's help. Meanwhile, Mandy is mad when Vanessa allows Eve to go to a music festival - when she was never allowed to when she was growing up.

On Halloween, Mike and Chuck decide they would rather watch college football than pass out candy to trick or treaters. Vanessa and Carol are annoyed by this and decide to play a prank on them, which leads to a prank war between the two factions. At Outdoor Man, Kyle dresses up like Ed for the holiday. Ed finds the costume flattering at first, but begins to feel insulted when Kyle's coworkers laugh at his "Ed" impersonations.

Kristin is surprised that Mike is treating her more like a dad than her boss when she tells him she wants to oversee the opening of the next Outdoor Man Grill restaurant. Meanwhile, Mandy and Kyle hope Ed will want their help in rekindling his relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Wendi.

When Eve tells the family her annoying best friend Cammy needs to move in with them, Mike springs into action to find a way to hand Cammy off on someone else, namely the Larabees. Meanwhile, Kristin asks Mandy to design the new uniforms for the Outdoor Man Grill, but they clash over Mandy's creative process.

Although Vanessa is disappointed it will only be her, Mike and Eve at the Baxter Thanksgiving table, she's more let down when Eve bypasses one of their holiday traditions and calls it "goofy." Meanwhile, Kristin finds out Mandy is lying to their parents about where she and Kyle will be spending Thanksgiving dinner.

When Boyd's hockey team needs a new coach, Mike surprises everyone when he recommends Ryan for the job since he was an all-star hockey player in high school. Meanwhile, Vanessa doesn't understand why ideal student Eve is failing in chemistry.

Mike, annoyed at how far his family has moved away from the true spirit of Christmas, tells them he wants each of them to perform a "good deed" for Vanessa. Meanwhile, Chuck is nominated to be Outdoor Man's in-store Santa for the season.

Mike and Vanessa bet on the outcome of their annual Polar Run, with Mandy trying to negotiate a few perks for herself. Meanwhile, Eve receives news of her West Point application, and Kristin is forced to hire Ed's girlfriend Wendi as a hostess in the restaurant, with mixed results.

Mike tries to cheer up Eve by showing her career options at Outdoor Man, but car mechanic Joe winds up being an unexpected influence on her. Elsewhere, Kristin fears that she and Mandy no longer share common interests.

When Ed asks Kyle to secretly take an engagement ring to get fitted, Mike spots him with it. Now, he and Vanessa think Kyle is going to propose to Mandy.

Mike has convinced Kristin and Ryan to buy a home instead of renting an apartment. But when he finds the ideal place for them, Ryan surprises everyone with a change of heart and backs out of the idea. Meanwhile, Mandy doesn't want Eve in the basement, which doubles as her work space, but Kyle defends her right to be there.

When Eve and her friend Cammy form a new band, they sound so horrible that Mike comes up with an idea to break them up, but his plan has unexpected results. Meanwhile, Kyle and Mandy babysit Boyd.

Mike is anxious to buy the miniature tank collection once belonging to the late husband of his neighbor, Helen Potts, but when he discovers Helen already sold the collection, he goes to extremes to make the collection his own.

Mike thinks Vanessa is using too much of his space at home to do her work, so he builds her a detached shed he calls a "she shed," in their yard. Meanwhile, Kyle has to cope when Kristin is unexpectedly named Employee of the Month at the Outdoor Man.

Mike meets with famous rock climber, and former girlfriend, Billie Cassidy, to persuade her to sell her line of climbing gear via the Outdoor Man store. Billie agrees to the deal but Mike is wary of her one condition: that he has to go on the promotional campaign trip with her. Meanwhile, Mandy helps Kristen and Ryan sell their old possessions.

Vanessa hopes getting a tattoo will change the current status she has with her three daughters from mother/daughter to the friend/friend level. Meanwhile, Ryan gets camping lessons from Kyle.

When Mike finds out future son-in-law Kyle fears meeting with the church's new minister, Mike tells Kyle to use him and Vanessa as a strong marriage example. But a recent argument ends up sending them to the minister instead. Meanwhile, Ryan helps Eve with her assignment to debate from the opposite side of her politically conservative beliefs.

Mike's anniversary at Outdoor Man is celebrated by a dinner and a speech.

Kyle leaves the loading dock door open, allowing a bear to wander into Outdoor Man.

Mike is disappointed to learn that the "Jack and Jill" wedding showers for Mandy and Kyle are scheduled on the same day as the Broncos-Chargers game.

Vanessa, supported by Mike, lectures Mandy on the dangers of vaping, then feels the pull of it herself as she navigates a potential teacher's strike; meanwhile Ryan and Kristen discover a safe in the basement of their new house.

Boyd is turning 10 years old, and sticking with the Baxter family tradition, Mike wants nothing more than to give him a shotgun and take him hunting. Kristin is all for it but Ryan has no interest in his son having a gun or harming animals. Meanwhile Kyle and Mandy's wedding preparations continue as Vanessa tries to convince Kyle to do a mother-son dance with her.

At Halloween the Baxter family is excited about their annual party, except for Mike, who's reluctantly tasked with choosing the theme. In hopes of turning everyone against the holiday, Mike decides that if the whole family has to dress up like one another they'll end up making fun of one another. Eve dresses up like Mandy and Mandy dresses down like Eve, Kristin and Ryan swap roles, and Mike shows up as - Donald Trump?. The impersonating turns into bickering, but in the end the Baxters come together to support Vanessa as she learns that she's being laid off.

Having a difficult time supporting Eve's gap year, Mike gives her a hard lesson on surviving in the real world, but Eve's unexpected reaction throws Mike for a loop.
